Virtual Private Network Issues

Virtual Private Network (VPN) shares public infrastructure such as the Internet, to provide users secure access to either their home network or organization’s network. It is used in contrast with an existing network of leased or owned lines.

4.	Virtual Private Network Issues
Though it reduces the cost of setting up remote or mobile computers with the network, there could be other issues pertaining to security and set-up configuration that may take your breath away. While using VPN on your Windows Vista, irrespective of the Vista edition or Internet connection that you may use, you could encounter some of these irritating errors:

Error 1
628

The port was disconnected

If the client using your VPN faces this error, it is simply because your VPN server is located behind a Linksys BEFSR41 router, Proxy or ISA. The client may also face issues while logging on to VPN using username and Password.

Error 2
783
Internet Connection Sharing cannot be enabled. The LAN connection selected as the private network is either not present, or is disconnected from the network. Please ensure that the LAN adapter is connected before enabling Internet Connection Sharing.

This error can happen if you are trying to enable Internet connection sharing with an IP address that is already used on the network.

Error 3

809
The network connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be established because the remote server is not responding.

This error occurs due to routers, firewalls, etc. Such devices require settings to allow VPN connections.

Error 4

821
The Network Access Protection (NAP) enforcement client was unable to process the request because the remote access connection does not exist.

This could happen if you are not connected to the Internet. Try re-connecting and see if the problem persists.

Error 5

815
The broadband network connection could not be established on your computer because the remote server is not responding.

An invalid value for the 'Service Name' field, could be a cause for this connection error.
